Breathing Space

Two people with craft materials

hoot's specialist arts and dementia project funded by Kirklees Council and the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.

The Breathing Space project has previously featured on BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4. Participants of the programme have exhibited their work at Holmfirth Art Festival and Huddersfield Art Gallery.

hoot believes that people living with dementia can still enjoy new challenges and learn new things with the right opportunities and approach. Our focus is always on the positive and what's possible, rather than what isn't. Skilled, experienced artists design and deliver our activities and strive to make participation a fun, stimulating, enlightening and uplifting experience for people with dementia and their partner or carer.

An update on Breathing Space workshops

hoot has changed how we deliver Breathing Space, our dementia service and are no longer running the sessions at hoot’s venue.

We are developing our services for older people and currently are working with dementia groups across Kirklees to offer a range of free creative activities focusing on developing a community of support, promoting positive relationships, building confidence and enhancing wellbeing.

Recently Sally, our in-house artist, created adaptable activities for people with dementia. These were compiled into a resource called "Unlocking Creativity" for artist training.
